Steve Campbell received his black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu from the legendary Master Carlos Gracie Jr, son of the founder of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Steve started training in martial arts in 1989 and soon became interested in disciplines such as Muay Thai, Jun Fan, Kali and shootwrestling and began training hard and won several amateur mixed martial arts competitions. Due to the influence of Royce Gracie in the early Ultimate fighting Championships Steve looked at specializing more in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which eventually led him to moving to Rio de Janeiro in 2001 to begin learning from the source at the headquarters of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Barra. After living in Brazil for 7 years training full time and competing, Steve decided to return to his hometown of Manchester as one of the first English Brazilian Jiu jitsu black belts to continue in the development of the principles of the art and pass on the knowledge he has aquired.
